Another successful year down for organizing and coordinating our annual 5k event for my local animal shelter, PAW Animal Shelter, in Fort Madison, IA! All proceeds made are donated back to benefit the animal shelter. Lots of hours, phone calls, and stressful nights later, we pulled off another 5k race without any hitches.
I’m going to first start out with saying that our shirts were pretty awesome this year. I am loving the color! What’s even better about the shirts is that the design of the shirt is in memory of one of PAW’s adopted dogs who passed away earlier this year. I think that’s touching and a great way to honor a special dog.
In addition, I would like to thank each and every one of our sponsors who donated this year to our 5k race because without them this event would not be possible. Their continued support for our aim to save as many dogs/cats lives as possible is only feasible with their support. So thank you!
With the help from my family, Thursday night was filled with organizing, counting and stuffing packets with t-shirts. Thank goodness for the extra sets of hands because instead of taking 2 hours, this process would’ve taken me all night!
We had a Friday night packet pick-up/registration at Sub Arena, one of our sponsor’s restaurants. We always like to try to bring business back to those who support our cause. We had a great turnout in reference to people who came to pick up their packets early (I would want to do that too, save me some time and sleep on race morning!) and those who registered for the race. Successful Friday night.
Saturday morning, bright and early, we were off to finish setting up the course, water stations, raffle drawing area, and packet pick-up location. This has been, by far, the fastest and easiest time we have had in regards to setting up on race morning. Maybe after 5 years we’re getting the hang of it! LOL
We were blessed with another beautiful, slightly hot, morning for our 5k event, located at Rodeo Park in Fort Madison, IA. We had sunshine, shaded areas, and a breeze that saved everything! Fun was had by all, two- and four-legged! We ended up with 255 people who registered for the race, 29 sponsors, and 45 individuals who signed up either Friday night or race morning. Majority of our race participants were from the SE Iowa area. We had 1 person from Milwaukee, WI and 1 person from Scottsdale, AZ join us this year!! We are blessed to have such amazing people who come and support us and this cause year-in and year-out. So to everyone who supported us and participated, THANK YOU!!! This wouldn’t be possible without you!
Again, I can’t thank my family and friends enough for helping me with this race (whether they liked it or not! LOL) and for coming and supporting me and the cause I believe so deeply in. I truly have the best family and friends around! #adoptdontshop
